FORMAT: This workshop is designed for two purposes:
The first is to have Norman Kent as your personal coach. Norman will cater to you specific needs and questions. Think of it as a trip to shoot an amazing boogie along with Norman and a group of fellow photographers of all skill levels who will also be shooting during the boogie, all interested in experimenting and learning from each other, this is why it is open to all experience levels. This is NOT a seminar.
The second is to compare and exchange information with other photographers, all with individual skills and ideas there will be a wealth of knowledge available to you for the duration of the workshop.
Think of the classroom as a place for technical support, exchange of information and a bank of ideas to take home with you.
There will be two classroom sessions each day. One in the morning (one hour) designed to plan your day and get tips from Norman for executing your plan and one in the evening after jumping (two hours), designed to share your work from the day, get tips from Norman on how to improve your skills, and to see other photographer’s results from the day’s shooting (including Norman’s). We will ad an afternoon session when necessary.
As an additional benefit, many photographers find it useful to take turns shooting each other in freefall. The benefit of this is that you can see yourself in freefall and learn from it (like others do), after all, when is the last time you saw yourself in freefall while shooting?
The advantage of this format, is that you learn and shoot at your own pace while having Norman Kent as your personal coach.
Some Notes and Conditions
Participants will be required to sign a model release as the sessions will be video taped.
The images and/or video you shoot during the workshop may be requested for an instructional DVD being produced by Norman (this is not a requirement but a request, it is your choice) and for use as samples of the workshop results. This will be an opportunity to have your material featured and viewed by others.
All boogie fees, jumps and expenses are the responsibility of the participant
A $200 deposit (refundable if canceled 30 days or more before workshop start day) is required to reserve your space, the remaining balance is due 30 days before the workshop start date. Cancellations within 30 to 15 days before start date will be subject to a $200 fee. No refunds 15 days of start of workshop. Slots are transferable to a different person for a fee of $50.
Q&A
Is there a space limit for the workshop?
Yes. 20 participants maximum.
What is the skill level for the workshops?
All skill levels are welcome as long as you are already jumping a camera helmet
Can a person not qualified to jump at a large boogie attend?
Yes, you may attend even if you do not meet the requirements for jumping at a boogie or even if you are not a jumper, however you would be restricted to shooting on the ground. You will learn the same skills are those jumping while shooting on the ground and use this as preparation for whenever you are qualified to jump at larger boogies
Can non-jumpers attend the workshop?
Yes, you may attend even if you are not a jumper, however you would be restricted to shooting on the ground. You will learn the same skills are those jumping while shooting on the ground and use this as preparation for whenever you are qualified to jump at larger boogies or simply to better your shooting skills if you don’t intend to jump.
Why at a boogie?
We choose large boogies as the environment for the workshops because they have lots going on to shoot, even on the ground, there should be plenty of loads of all kinds to follow and shoot as well as things to shoot on the ground.
How do I get on loads?
It is you own responsibility to pay, get invited and manifest yourself on loads. We will not have organized loads especially for you to shoot, this is why we choose large boogies as the environment for the workshops, there should be plenty of loads of all kinds to follow and shoot as well as things to shoot on the ground. How to get on loads is one of the skills Norman will be teaching, some people may spend a good part of their workshop mastering that area or skill.
Can I learn how to get published during this workshop?
Sure, all questions are valid, you will not only learn from Norman but will have an opportunity to ask others and hear what their technique is for getting published.
What happens if we have bad weather?
The workshop runs rain or shine. There is plenty to learn in the classroom. If the weather prevents us from jumping, we will spend more time in the classroom looking and analyzing existing material from Norman’s archives as well as yours. Make sure you bring samples of your work!
Is the workshops in July 26 - 29 and July 30 - Aug 2, the same workshop just on different dates?
The workshops are the same but the way the workshop is designed you can continue where you left off in the first session. The way the workshops are formated, you can continue on the second session where you leave after the first. Think of it as having a personal coach to teach you in a custom way whatever you wish to know. I will be helping each individual in whatever level they are at and I think with this format, the longer anyone is exposed to the knowledge, the more they will progress, after all, there is only so much you can learn in 4 days, so YES, I do recommend people taking both sessions if they want to get the most out of the workshop.
I am committed to having each student get the most out of these workshops, I am a stand for creativity, inspiration, fun, motivation and courage. I am also an unlimited wealth of technical knowledge which I intend to pass on to everyone enrolled in these workshops. With that said, yes, the longer you are around this atmosphere the more you will get out of it.
Is the workshop about stills, video or both?
The workshops will cover both stills and video, again, it is customized to your individual needs.
